Man, that guitar was nice. I've played one American
Vintage series Jaguar and handled a real '66 Jaguar.
I really couldn't tell the difference, at least fit
and finish wise, on this MIJ and the lake placid blue
finish was blinding. Everything about the guitar was
cherry. I plugged it into a Hot Rod Deluxe and played
it a little bit. It had wimpy 10's on it but it still
sounded pretty good to my ears, and I'm wondering just
how those stock MIJ pups would sound with some 11 or
12 flatwounds. They had a Cyclone II exactly like
mine sitting on the wall next to it for only about $80
less...but the Cyclone has the AV pups...then I
started entertaining thoughts of buying the Jaguar and
swapping for two of the AV series pups in my Cyclone,
then selling my Cyclone for whatever I could get for
it...but the Cyclone pretty much sounds like the
Jaguar anyway, and I paid next to nothing for it...but
then again the Jaguar neck is my favorite neck of all
time...and I continue to wrestle with myself. But
after seeing this guitar, I can't imagine the AV
series being worth twice as much dollar-wise.

I dunno Richard, I tried some MIJ Jazzmasters, and the three that I tried
all felt like toys. Played a MIA JM next to a MIJ and the difference was
very noticeable. I bought the Amercian one.
I doubt the Jaguars are different, but I could be wrong. I'm saying this
because I'd hate someone to buy a $600-700 guitar (this price does not
include a case, BTW), and end up realizing it would have been better to wait
a little and get a much better guitar for $1200 (with a case and other
goodies included).
Of course, it all depends how often do you gig (if you do).
Hope this helps,
Ran

Well, this might be where the big difference between
me and a lot of other people here...I gig as a bass
player and only play guitar in my apartment or over at
a buddy's place, so there are a lot of little things
about cheaper guitars that I don't get bothered by. I
have an American series bass that I use, and I went
through a Mexican and Japanese-made bass before
deciding that I had to have an MIA instrument if I was
going to be playing live, mainly because of tuning
issues. My rationale in coming to that conclusion was
very much like yours, so, yeah, I suppose you've got a
pretty good point here.
