Hi All,
I'm currently making a three piece Jazzmaster body in Maple, which seams
to turn out o.k.
The body will be mated with a vintage 60ties Diamond (Aria)maple with
rosewood neck.
So far so good. The reason I used maple for the body was because it was
available in the right size.
The wood is wonderfull, very nice, but I realized it is not a common
wood used for bodies.
So what pick ups should I use to get a somewhat vintage Surf tone out of
this Bass and to compensate the use of Maple instead of alder?
I will be using Jazzbass sized pick ups, since that is what cavities I
made already.
Thanks,
Jerry S.
Lessee...you're definitely going to be using Jazz Bass
pickups? Depending on how much money you want to
spend, there are Seymour Duncan antiquities, the US
Vintage Series j-pups, or even the modern American
Series j-pups. People sell those on eBay all the time
after switching them out, but I personally think that
they're good pickups, just a little...hotter? edgier?
-sounding than the vintage RI's. I'm sure there are a
bunch of other possibilities as well.
Richard
