Link's guitars

That's what somebody on the Fender Forum had said, but
it says "prototype" in the description with a custom
made neck. Possibly a one-off?...and now that you
mention it, I believe I did hear that he recorded it
with an LP and not an SG. This adds even more
questions--is Link the one auctioning these things?
It would be sad if he sold them in good faith to a
collector or something only to have them turn around
and cash 'em in.

Maybe they meant he recorded "a version" of Rumble with the SG. (maybe
the version with the tuba?)

I have no idea whether there were SG-prototypes in
1958. But Gibson marketed the first SGs as Les Pauls,
until Les Paul made clear he doesn’t like the guitar.
I have a 60s Les Paul album with a big SG on the front
cover. I think I even remember publicity shots of Mr.
Paul holding a white one, like a SG in a LP Custom
suit.
