Vibrasonic

-=Dan Ware=- (reverbtank2002) - 14 Feb 2004 15:43:48

When The Nebulas first started working as a 4-piece outfit, my main amp
was a '96 Custom Shop Vibrasonic. What initially led me to this amp was a
long threaded discussion about amps with Ivan from The Space Cossacks. I had
seen them play live at their last show in DC and that was the amp he had
been using, and it was supernatural in tone and volume. I have very few
regrets, but one of them is selling that amp.
Everyone goes through a phase where they think they have a better idea
than the fine folks at Fender, and my "fine" idea had been to remove the
chassis from the Vibra and put the chassis from a mid-70's silverface Dual
Showman Reverb into it in it's place. At the time, I thought "cool!" and
promptly ebayed the Vibra chassis. Fast forward six months and I had a hell
of a time selling the "new" dual showman reverb in this funny new combo
setup.
A truly awesome amp, worth every penny. I paid about 800 for mine.

Didn't the Vibrasonic have a "Steel" input and was marketed at the
Nashville steel players? It looks like Fender is doing the same with
this one. Other than the updated speaker (and the bigger cabinet), I
wonder what the difference is?
