Tell me about the Vibrosonic

Richard (errant_jedi) - 12 Feb 2004 17:42:31

Did they all come with the D130F speaker? What years
were they manufactured? Any caveats with certain
year-models/incarnations? Is older Silverface better
than newer? What years? What's a fair price for one?
What I'm looking for is a portable, not too terribly
expensive combo amp that will give me what I'm looking
for without me having to spend a bunch of money
swapping parts. I'm not against the idea of getting
an older amp serviced if it will give me what I want,
but I don't want to wind up in an aftermarket parts
pit trying to make one into what I want.
Richard

Richard,
Check out the Fender Amp Field Guide:
What are you looking for in amp? Power, natural overdriven tube
tone, etc.? The Vibrosonic Reverb is simply a Twin Reverb chassis
with a 15" JBL. From what I have seen, a vintage Vibrosonic will be
hard to find but I'm sure they're out there. Because of that you'll
probably pay a premium. If you're wanting to have that configuration
(A 100W amp with a 15" speaker), the Twin Reverb chassis ($300max)
come up ever so often on eBay so I would buy one of those and buy a
brand-new complete cabinet from Ampwares ($265 not including
shipping). A Jensen P15N speaker is Alnico, like the JBL's, and go
for around $180 shipped to your door. You would have a complete
vintage amp w/ a new cab and speaker for ~ $800. That really isn't
bad considering it would cost ~ $400 more than that for a new 2003
Fender Twin Reverb that is NOT point to point. I'm not a salesperson
for any of these companies so my $0.02 is genuine. I was in the same
boat you were in about 2 years ago and people helped me out with
their input-just returning the karma. Good luck. JWL

I played one of these at a local music store and I was blown away.
Super clean and it has that 15" sound. It sounded like a portable
Showman. I'm taking my 6120W in on Wednesday (while my daughter has
drum lessons) and give it a thorough going over. From what I heard, I
was very impressed.
