Strat Vs. Jazzmaster

gerryrdahl - 10 Feb 2004 21:39:53

Hi Everyone,
This may be old news, but new to me.
Doe's the strat have that much more bass than a jazzmaster?
I borrowed a friends strat and had to re-adjust my
tone settings on my amp, and the strat had much more bass.
Is this typical?
Thanks.

Jazzmasters are usually known for being "darker." Which Strat model
was it, and what sort of pickups did it have?

Is your Jazzmaster a jap model? If so, it has strat like pickups.
Jazzmasters (american/vintage) have a more full bodied, thicker sound than a
strat....

Hi GD,
Hmmm, I'm not sure. Was it a stock strat? I was always under the
impression that the Jazzmaster was a bit more mellow to the bass side,
followed by the Strat and less bass comes from the Jag (IMHO)
Although, when a US stock strat is compared with a CIJ PU loaded
Jazzmaster, then the Strat has more bass. (again IMHO)
Also since the strat has more PU's and options on how to use those, it
could be more bassy then a Jazzmaster (CIJ or MIA)
I did adjust the pick up selection swith on our rythem guitarsists stock
MIM strat (Neck - bridge pu selection, like the Jazzmaster and Jaguar)
At this point the strat sounded differently then before, very nice a bit
fuller more surfy.

Thanks for the reply's
My Jazzmaster is a 1962 original.
Sounds like I may need to play with my pickup hight.
Because the strat has much more bass than my jazzmaster.
Thanks again.
GD
Oh, I play the Jazzmaster w/both pickups on, and the strat with
neck and middle or middle and bridge.

hi
i bought a fender jaguar copy. its really good and the sound is perfect. But
it gets out of
tune. When i play my strat, i can strap the remolo. but i don´t know how to
do it on the
jaguar. Is there a crew to strap it more for a harder tremolo use
