Link's Gear

urbansurfkings - 29 Jan 2004 05:31:31

Anyone know what kind of amp Link Wray used back in the early years?
The Rumble era (Swan label & early Epic).
Thanks,
Mike

Hi,
I read somwhere that Link Wray used a premier amp in those days. (I
believe a single 12"? Combo)
Can't remember where I read it, I think some guitar magazine, but I'm
not sure.
He bought the gear with his first payment after he made the record deal.
Link always used relatively cheap gear to achive his unique sound.
I always heard he pushed pencil(s) in the cone of his early amp(s) to
achieve some level of distortion.
He was recently in the top 100 of guitar players recently in Rolling
Stone.

None of the stuff that is being sold has been used by Link for years. He's
just selling these to fund anti-bootlegging efforts. He has many other
guitars and I've only seen him play the Screamin' Red a few times. Maybe
with some of that money he can finally afford a haircut! I do have it on
VERY good and reliable authority that a tour is in the works so he's most
definitely not quitting..
I've seen him more times than I can count and every time has been
amazing...The last time I saw him (late 2002) he was kickin' up dust like he
was 20.
Do this now!!!

It would be "funny" if the R&R Hall of Fame bought it. His guitars
would be inducted before him. Why Link isn't in the Hall of
Fame...i dunno...seems like a crime to me.
