Hi,
Jumping on the latest JM discussion band wagon, I have a couple of related
qustions.
I'm getting a MIA JM, and since the store will be setting it up for me
initaily, I'd like to try to get the most info before-hand, so as not to get
a new guitar and have to try re-setting it myself.
1. After discussing it with Dave and Marti, and reading the on-going
discussions here, I decided I'll try the Buzz-Stop way. I looked on-line for
the device, and while I saw discussions on it, I never found an online store
that sells it. The store where I'm buying the guitar doesn't have them, and
I want them to set up the guitar with it in place. Where do you guys get
your Buzz-Stops?
2. Strings - I tune my guitars down to D (D-G-C-F-A-D). I plan to do the
same thing with the JM. I like my strings heavy and my action high.
I looked online for heavy strings, but the heaviest I saw were 13-56
(they're good for standard tuning, but not for the D tuning). So I Iooked
for Baritone strings, but found only round-wounds (plus they might be too
heavy). I looked at 7 string guitar strings and the only flat-wounds I found
were D'Addario Electric Guitar Chromes Flat Wound 7-String Jazz Lite, .011 -
.065, for $9.36. After discarding the high E that would leave me with
.015-.065, which I think would be OK.
Problem is, I wish there was a similar 6 string set for a lower price, and I
wish there were more alternatives.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ran
Hey Ran!
You can get a buzzstop at Guitar Parts Resource
(www.guitarpartsresource.com - search under "bridges") or Parts-Is-Parts
() for
about $40. There also seems to be one on ebay
(
5) starting at $25.
As far as the strings go, your pricing looks the same as Just Strings so
I'll assume you've been looking there. That's the best place I've found
on-line for inexpensive strings. Guess I can't help you with question #2 .
. .
Good luck!
-Dick
