I just got a CIJ Jazzmaster, how high do you guys set the action on

Hi Bill,
I got a MIJ and it took me a while to get the action right.
I ended up shimming the neck (as opposed by Mel and others) with a Jim
Dunlop pick (0.60)
I raised the individual saddles and lowered the bridge. I also filed
little slots in the threaded bridge (so now the act as string savers,
which they do quiete well, since I dind't break a string on them)
I now got a pretty low action, no buzzing and the guitar stays very
nicely in tune. I do use 0.12 d'Addario Chromes on it, which provide a
nice sound even with the stock pups.
Kind regards,
Jerry S;

Well I'm really used to the low action and 9.0 radius of my
stratocaster. I have the high e string at the top of the 12th fret
to the bottom of the string at about 3-4/64ths. The smaller vintage
frets make this seem higher. However I haven't shimmed the neck
yet. What advantages does this have?

Well, shimming the neck has some advantages. You can highten the angle
of the strings over the bridge, Thus getting rid of the rattling usually
associated with the Jag and Jazmaster, also you will have a lower
action (I too like to have a low action on my guitars)
Check out Mr. Gearhead and Mel Waldorfs Jaguar and Jazzmaster page for
more details.
In my expieriance it was a bit of a trail and error to get the action
just right.

Only shim the neck if the neck pocket is so low that the string action is still
too high, after adjusting the bridge/bridge saddle as low as is possible.
