have the best surf tone?

Pro reverb
Vibrosonic
Vibrolux
Deluxe reverb
Also would you choose an early silverface model or a later model?
Any comments about this era of Fender amps is welcome.

Man, I've been playing the trading game with my local vintage amp
dealer and have finally settled on a 69 Silverface SuperReverb and
let me tell you.......she is so sweet! I recently had her recapped
and retubed and it's the best sounding Fender amp I've ever played.
If I were you I'd stay away from the Ultra Linear (mid to late 70's)
Silverface. I just had a clean looking UL 135 RMS Twin and the highs
were like ice picks in your ear drums. SuperReverb all the way!-

The SFSR is a great amp..my SFTR is just before the UL change.thank
goodness. I love it for the clean, loud tone.wasn't the Showman a modded
Twin??

what they said...
however, the 135UL models are pretty simple to mod into a 100watt non-
UL circuit, which makes it a pretty decent surf amp and gets rid of
those piercing highs.
It does however NOT turn it into a 100w twin, and is only recommended
for lame guys who
a) have not enough money for a decent amp
b) can get a beat up 135 twin for very little
c) suffer from severe soldering iron fetisjism
... like me.
