and yet another post on the reverb tank cap job....
I did the capmod a while ago, putting in a 500 pF (switchable)
although i liked the extra reverb in the deep, it made the sound a
little too muddy to my taste, so i ended up using the original cap
most of the time.
then i decided to put in a lesser value, but my electronics store
happened to be all out of 390's, which is what i wanted. so, what i
did was get u bunch of lower values to put together to get at 390
(sort of)
then when i opened up the box again, and took a good look at the
original cap, i saw for the first time that the original capp wasn't
a 250, as it should be, but a 220.
well anyway, what i ended up doin was installing a 50 pF parralel to
the original, leaving that one in place, and another 100pF switchable
parralel. So now I can switch between 270 and 370 tonecaps... (it's a
ptp tank, i wouldn't put two caps and leads on pcb, btw)
and here are the observations: 220 - 270: huge difference, so much
better, much more and deeper reverb witchout loosing attack
270-370: hardly any difference noticable
any thoughts anyone? i checked my soldering...
