SD pickups

mono_tones_1 - 12 Jan 2004 09:20:48

hi guys,
i while ago i posted some questions on pickup for strat, here's the
update
i ended up buying two seymour duncans ssl-1, the alnico 5 vintage
staggered pups. i bid one a RW/RP one on ebay germany, and after i
won it for 25 euros the guy offered me another one, also RW/RP for
the same price. I figured i could always sell it again for 25, so i
ended up buying both. I installed them both on my squire strat
(middle and bridge) and the guitar sounds awesome now, i am very very
happy with the pups. it gives me a sort of an aggresive surf tone
with a lot of attack, somewhat like (dare i say it) NebulaRudy's
guitar (the mosrite?) on the GO!time mp3, a little less 'broad', but
broader then what you'd expect with a strat. (might be the
combination with that Korean high-end plywood body ;-)
anyway, if you can get one cheap (as i did) give it a try.
btw, the two rw/rp's seem to work fine with the original pup in the
neck position, so i guess i wont bother figuring out the whole
polarity/winding thing. cant see me using that one pickup again
though, it's more like a dust cover for the third pickup hole now.
also, the two rw/rp's together don't give any hum problems, as a
matter of fact the pups are really quite in any case.
