I'm giving some thought to picking up a Di Pinto Galaxie (sunburst
with 5-way switch). I know Los Straitjackets play them and they sound
good... but I suspect they could make anything sound good.
Does anybody here own one? How do you like it? What are the pluses &
minuses? How do they compare to a Jag or JM? Anything unusual about
the set up? How do the available pickup configurations sound?
I have a deluxe Galaxie (green with gold metalflake pickguard and red
rocker switches) and a Mach IV (blue with white racing stripes).
They both have a very different sound. I would not compare them at
all to a Jag or JM.
The Galaxie seems better suited for Surf while the Mach IV has a
crunchier tone.
I think Dan from the Dynotones used a Mach IV (red if I recall).
Perfect for that kind of hot rod/rat fink instro sound.
These are really cool guitars. The pearloid tuning heads though are
very fragile. One of mine was cracked during shipping and broke apart
in my fingers while tuning the guitar. The only way to fix it was to
get a replacement head.
