Where's the best place to get a fender reverb tank these days?
I know vintage tanks are expensive, but what should I pay for a
reissue?
And, are there ways to hotwire the reissues for better sound?
Thanks,
017
Trace, about a month ago I bought a '63 reissue Fender Reverb Unit from
Musicians Friend for $329.00 out the door with no shipping charged to me.
$329.00 even. About one week later I saw a "used" Reissue go for over $400.00
not including shipping(probably $35.00 or so) on ebay. Go to Musiciansfriend.com
and check it out, hopefully the deal still stands.
Hope that helps!!

Nah, my tank isnt dead. It just sounds like sh!t. I'm down to my one
vintage '65. It lost it's boooch about a year ago, and I took it in to have
it serviced. They replaced the spring tray and it's never sounded the same
since. It's not that nasty wetness it used to be, now it's this tight,
springy..shitty sounding drip. I liken it to stretching a rubber band
between two fingers and plucking it.
Theres no way in hell I'm recording a new album with THIS tank sounding
like it does. I figure I'll just get a reissue, do the cap and tube mod to
it and be done with it.
That is unless Dick Messick will sell me his hand-built reverb
tank...Dick...do you hear me Dick!?!?
It's my fundamental belief that Fender outboard reverb tanks are the
biggest piece of shit ever manufactured and distributed, and for Fender to
charge what they do...embarrassing. Theyre even more fragile than a dozen
eggs and about as road worthy as the same.

So, does that mean you want to sell it?

Hey Dano, is this the one you had trouble with on the
European tour?
Maybe you should try a pedal. ;)

I had my '64 serviced, when I bought it, it was dead. Now, I coulda
sworn it wasn't THAT drippy, certainly isn't as wet sounding as some
of the reissues prior to the cap job(but those sound like shit
anyway). But it's wetter than it was before, and I think I went a
little over board with the reverb on our album. What was wrong with
mine was in the input jack. Seriously, after bending the little
switch which touches the jack away from the actual input it's
increased in DRIP. Sometimes it's something as minimal as
that...boy I'm drunk and need sleep.....................
