Spring Reverb unit question

Vince Frank (mournblade1066) - 12 Nov 2003 08:37:06

Hey, here I am again asking incredibly naive questions, but hey, as
I've mentioned before, I'm primarily a keyboardist, not a guitarist.
(You've gotta start somewhere, right?) ;-)
Anyway, I've been looking for a decent spring reverb sound. I've
considered both The Holy Grail and the Spring King pedals. I've
heard mixed reviews about both. Unfortunately, no music stores in
my vicinity (Altoona, PA) carry either of these, so I can't test them out.
I've been searching eBay, however, and came across a few which I'd
like to run by the knowledgeable members of this list.
One is a Pioneer SR-101 Stereo Spring Reverb. The description says it
"was intended to be used with hi-fi setups as a spatial enhancer for
listening to music. . . [but can be used for] getting the perfect pingy/twangy/
springy surf-guitar sound."
The other is a Biamp MR/140 Spring Reverb.
Are units such as these used as any other effects pedal? That is, do they
take patch cords, which can have a gutiar plugged directly into them?
Thanks for your infinite wisdom!!!
Vincent

The Pioneer unit is pretty cool. I've got a few of those consumer
reverbs around. Not so deep as a guitar unit, but it'll probably
get you there. IIRC, the SR-101 is a tube unit, so keep that in
mind. If you can pick one up cheap enough ($50?) I'd do it. It's
always good for recording...
