Vincent,
Have you ever heard Wall of Voodoo, and "Mexican Radio" doesn't count. Not an
instro band and definately not surf but one of the highlights of their live
show was the "Morricone Themes" I have that on a 12" single with "Ring of Fire"
on the flipside. Both tracks feature big twanging guitars and big fat analog
synth patches. They also have some cool songs in the same vein on their album
"Call of the West," which is available on CD. The title track and "Spy World"
which are vocal numbers and "On Interstate 15" which is instrumental.

===>I *LOVE* Wall of Voodoo! I've been meaning to get the cd "Call of the West"
for some time.
Anyway, if you've ever seen the film, "Urgh! A Music War!", there is a great
performance of "Back In Flesh" by Wall of Voodoo. The "punk attitude" is
summed up perfectly when the singer, at the end of the performance, says
completely deadpan: "Thanks a lot for coming. We really love you. Show
business is. . .is my life."
HEY! Speaking of Urgh! A Music War! there is a band on that called
The Surf Punks. Has anyone here ever heard of them? I have a few
songs from them at home ("Tijuana Weekend" and "Somebody Ripped My
Board," for example). Their definitely not instrumental surf, but they're
more or less a "hooligan" version of The Beach Boys--sorta like a cross
between The Beach Boys and Ween. Good stuff!
Vincent
I am a fan of the surf punx, they are more punk than surf, but are funny as
heck.
