Link Wray

Richard (errant_jedi) - 08 Oct 2003 14:00:35

I know that Link Wray was still touring as of a short
time ago, but is there a website or any place to get
current information on him? I was looking around
today and found some fan sites, but nothing
"official."

Richard,
I don't think there is an "official site".
Probably the best unofficial site is this one:
I wonder if Link has heard the MuSick Link Wray Tribute CD?

Can anyone tell us how to contact Link Wray either by e-mail, phone or snail
mail?

That web site is pretty busy, but I managed to find this page:
So are you Howling Thurston's guys ever going to contribute to the list or
just post show dates? Not that there's anything wrong with that.. :) Just
razzing ya.

If you are in the SF Bay Area, there will be a Link
Wray Tribute band playing on April 5 at The Make Out
Room in San Francisco. The band features members of
The Dead Kennedys, APE, Pollo Del Mar (me) and Sloe
Gin Joes.
Thanks,
ferenc

Ferenc,
Which members of The Dead Kenneyds? How did you meet them? Which
members of APE?

There have been a couple tribute shows that I know of
to date. Link Wray was a pioneer, but I never really
thought of him as a reverb Master. Yeah, you could
detect a slight bit in his music but not a whole heck
of a lot of the wet stuff.

San,
The Link Wray Tribute is being put together by Frank
Novicki of Ape. Klaus Flouride from DK is playing
bass. Klaus and East Bay Ray are visible members of
the SF music scene and very approachable. They have
lots of side projects besides the Jello-less DKs. A
few years ago they had a surf band called Jumbo
Shrimp, so we gigged with them a bunch of times.

I had the great fortune of seeing him live when I was in the military
in 73 in a small club in Seatle WA.the place paid no attention to
him, kept on drinkin and talkin, then they dimmed the lights, and this
awsome reverb started.every body stopped and looked at the small
stage,at once."who the hell is that guy" ,my friend Gary said.then one
of the guys sang "The way I Walk"I was hooked ,Have been ever scince.

There's been a looooooot of Link worship on this list
the last couple of years. I think you just missed the
bulk of it. There's no shortage of admiration for the
guy in this circle.
