okay, you all must be sick of it, but i have a rev tank question!
what's the origin of the reverb tank tone cap mod? the reason I'm
asking is I recently opened up my (italian made cosmoverb) reverb
tank to see whether the builder's claim that it was built after
original 60's Fender specs was correct. so I opened it up and found a
250pF tonecap. So, with the description of the capmod on cowabunga in
mind, I figured it wasn't true to the original design.
Then I looked up the reverb tank schematic on schematicheaven.com,
and found that thatone has a 250, and not the 390-500 pF cap that the
mod describes.
So, what's up? If there is a 390 in the original, why doesn't the
schematic say so? and if there is a 250 in the schematic, then why is
the capmod labelled as 'that vintage sound'?
enlighten me please!
oh btw, i'll try the mod in any case, that Nebulas logo does it.
eleven nights and they'll hit my hometown!
250pF is the original cap value.
I think the mod first appeared in an article in Guitar Player reviewing the
Fender reissue.
The author changed the cap and found it sounded better.
BTW the cap mod does not take the treble tones away, it only adds a little
more bass.
If you want less treble you better change the 10n cap on the tone control.

Hi Mono Tones,
Where are you from? Most likely we will be staring at the Nebulas at the
same time ;-)
Jerry S.
P.S. Rock Verb who's also on this list has also a Cosmo Verb. Perhaps he
knows? And I also know that the Cosmo Verb, even built like the original
Fender tank, has a 6L6 instead of 6K6
