More Speaker Questions

rio452001 - 02 Oct 2003 13:44:55

I love my recently-acquired Bandmaster, but the speakers in the cab
are sick and need replacement.
I don't wanna spend an arm, a leg & a testicle. I'm told I can have a
pair of second-hand Jensen C12Ks for a good price. I understand that
these are used in the Twin Reverb re-issue, and they're 100 watt
versions of the C12Ns which were used (along with Oxfords, etc) in
the original cabs.
My question is, what are the pluses and minus of the C12Ks over the
C12Ns in this situation? The BM puts out about 40 watts, the C12Ns
are rated for 50w, and the C12Ks for 100.
How are they likely to compare to the Weber Californias I've read
about here and elsewhere?
Any other comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Rio,
I was always told that the Jensen C12 K is a bit too heavy for the
Bandmaster. Since the C12K is for a 100 Wa Amp (Twin reverb reissue) and
the C12N for a 50 W amp such as the Bandmaster.
The Jensen C12K or C12N is a very bright speaker. Some claim thet the
new C12 serries are not compareable with the old ones. But I'm not
arround that long to confirm that ;-)
In all it takes a while for a new Jensen to break, and to become more
smoothly and less harsh. The Jenses is described as a good speaker for
darker sounding guitars as the Jaguar and Jazzmaster. And If I'm
informed correctly, the are made in Italy these days. (Jensen was bought
by an Italian Company??)
I have heard great things about the Webers too and there are a lot of
different models available. Best is to inform at Webers Web site or send
them an e-mail with your needs, so they can sellect the right speaker
for your amp and needs. (that is what their web site says)
Hope this helps,
Jerry S.
