Well I think a lot of people would agree with you. Definitely one of the
best bands of the 90's easily. But as for retro (or retoro?), I'd have to
say no. Nobody sounded like these guys. They had their own sound, thats one
thing I really admire about them. Their originality plus their incredible
musicianship. If you want to hear some of their influences, pick up "The
Atlantics: The Complete CBS Recordings". Its on 2 CD's from Cane Toad
records I believe.
We are also fortunate to have Ivan here (I now look expectantly in Ivan's
direction...). I always feel kind of weird handing out compliments to bands
when the band members are on this list...(I still can't believe so many
great band members are on this list!!)...but hey, thats just the way I see
it. I love this music!
Its too bad we can't get another CD out of those guys!

I think they're GRRRRREEEEAAAT! :)
Seriously, thanks for the compliment. The band had me on lead
guitar, Mark English on rhythm, Catherine Gray on bass, and Doug
Hoekstra on drums. Catherine and Doug are still playing together in
Washington, DC's rock/psychobilly/garage trio Superswank. Don't
think Mark's been up to much.
I play in a Shadows cover band the Troubadours in the midwest (I now
live in Michigan), and we play out a few times each summer. We
played in Indy and Chicago this summer (and a private show in
Indiana), and we have a gig coming up in Toronto on Saturday. It's
probably premature to talk about this, but I'm hoping that I'll have
another original surf band together sometime early next year. We
shall see...
Thanks again.
