Has anyone tried the Electar tube amps? They are small and
inexpensive.

I have owned an Electar 30DR for a couple of years. I think it's a decent amp
for the price. It has digital reverb, I have a Digitech effects processor
that I use to get more of a spring reverb sound. I think the new version, the
30R, includes spring reverb and a footswitch. They have sort of a cool retro
look. The 10" speaker is not cheap sounding. I have seen some of the Electar
amps
on ebay. Hope this helps.

I wondered that myself...since musicyo.com is offering
a free "Electar Tube-10" amp with the purchase of
select guitars. Unfortunately, the mentioned guitars
(Kramer Baretta-II PRO, Kramer Vanguard PRO, & Kramer
Standard PRO) are not any I really want to own. Well,
the Standard Pro doesn't look too bad. But that little
Electar tube amp looks interesting.

I looked these up on eBay and it mentioned that
they're made by Gibson? For a guy like me that really
only messes with the six-string part-time it looks
like it might be just the ticket. (I can't stand my
Frontman 15R.)

What's the matter with it? A friend has one and was pleased with it until it
broke (in less than a year). I've got a Bullet 15 DSP and quite like it and
it's pretty much the Frontman with more effects.

Mine hums something terrible. It may be something as
simple as a lose wire, but I'm not at all competent
with amps or electronics so I don't bother. The
volume tends to go from nonexistant to ridiculously
high (for practicing in my thin-walled apartment) with
very little tweaking of the volume knob. Don't get me
wrong, it works, but I wish that I'd spent a bit more
money on a slightly larger amp at the outset.

First, BN, let me introduce myself, I am new. My name is Bill and
my primary instrument is bass. Along the way I have studied harmony
theory, jazz guitar and have developed some surf tremelo guitar
chops. I play a DiPinto Galaxie and value simplicity, sound and
playability over nameplate. I know a guy with more than a dozen
LesPauls, but can barely play just one of them.
The last classic rock band I played in wanted me to declare classic
rock as my passion and stop bringing these damned surf rock originals
or be kicked out of the band. I now have more time to record and
copyright some of my stuff. I joined this group because maybe I might
find some others in NJ who might be into this "weird" music that is
my consuming passion now. Also you guys discuss a lot of good topics.
Small amp content:
The guitarist in Jonnie Dog and the Dingoes plays live with an
Electar amp. He has a link on his website.
There is a band playing at the Saint in Asbury Park, NJ tonight
called "Nebula". They are a "stoner rock band", whatever that is. Any
infringement?

I'm not plugging MusicYo.com. I bought the amp and one guitar from their
website. Shipping and packaging was good. I have not had to use their customer
service, so I can't vouch for that. Both products were as advertised.

Hey, it doesn't get much better then the good old Fender Champ...

1965 BF Champ brought in 1994 for $150.00..I've got large tube amps as
well..but this amp still amazes me, and is one of the few items I'll never
part with. Versatile, always sounds great..dead simple to keep working for a
tube amp as well. Too small? Throw a mic in front of it, and rock on!

Brad
