Hey everybody,
This really doesnt relate to surf guitar, but i was wondering if
anybody knows what the smallest guage strings come with a wound 3rd
g.
the reasone i ask is because i have a gretsch that i just re-
intonated and the sound could be brighter so i am thinking of
downsizing the strings, but if the strings are too small you can
encounter different problems all together. My possibly flawed rule of
thumb for this quitar is if the g is wound its good enough.
I haven't seen anything thinner then 010 - 050 , with an .020 wound 3th. But
I haven't seen that much so there you go.
I do know however that Dutch bluesjazzer Arthur Ebeling plays a Gretch 6210
with a set of .009's, with a plain third, and he has the best sound I've
ever heard coming out of a Gretch. you can check a sound samples at , they are under both 'tab' (solo's) and
'discography'
it's got nothing to do with surf, but check it out nevertheless! might get
you to try a set of 009's....
