Surfin' Exotic Style In Chicago
We've been looking forward to this event for quite a while. Now it's
time to shine. Exotica 2003, the first Tiki enthusiast weekender in the
Midwest, will transpire this weekend. Saturday night is the
"Midwest Surf Spectacular" show at Phyllis Musical Inn, a show not to
be missed. It starts with Ivan's (of Space Cossacks fame) band
the Troubadours. The Troubadours pay homage to the extraordinary
sounds of the Shadows. This will be followed by Chicago's favorite
cocktail companions, The Cocktail Preachers. Sitting in with the
Preachers that night will be Ex-Von Ripper rhythm guitarist
Bruce Bindeman. Bruce will be playin' some lap steel and filling in
on rhythm guitar. We're feeling that loungy Blue Hawaiian vibe
already. It is also our last show of the summer. Headlining this
event will be Estrus recording artists, The Volcanos, from Detroit.
This is their warm up for the Vegas Rockaround
and its one surf band that is a must see. Also from Detroit is
Burlesque dancer Sparkly Devil. She will provide a lil' entertainment
in between sets. There will also be tiki inspired décor from local
artist Dave Krys at the club.
Available that evening will be an Exotica 2003 exclusive CD
"Cocktail Preachers Live on KFJC". That's right, promoters of the event
asked us for merchandising, so we obliged. Our June 1st 2002
performance on the Phil Dirt's radio show was burned to CD and set
to press. It's one of our best live performance captured on tape.
Let me tell you its just thumping with energy and the only way to
get this plastic disc is to come to the show. A limited number
will be available for sale and when they're gone, they're gone.
See you at the Kona Kai on Friday and at Phyllis' on Saturday!
