the 3rd wave of surf dudes seems to be a mixed bag.
Firstly, there are way way way more 3rd wave bands than
there ever was 2nd wave bands...
3rd wavers seem to divide into distinct camps: "trad surf",
"experimental surf", "neo-techno-surf", "lounge-surf",
"rock-a-billy-surf"...you get the idea...sort of the
"mallization of surf"...the "Hot-topicization of surf"...
===>Yeah, I definitely fit into this third group (3rd wave).... As I
mentioned before, my music is a weird combo of electronica/gothic
mixed with surf/rockabilly. Just wish I could play guitar better....
Which brings me to this: I FINALLY bought a computer a few
months ago, and I purchased a ludicrously inexpensive recording
software called PowerTracks, which is made by the company which
issues the software called Band in a Box. I've essentially turned
my computer into a multi-track digital recording studio.
Anyway, I've started re-recording all the electronic portions (Ensoniq
ASR-10 sampler; Ensoniq FIZMO synthesizer (WOW--what a freaking
amazing instrument!); and an old Roland DDR drum machine) of
the music I've done over the years, but have mercifully omitted the
guitar parts for the most part (my playing ability is downright pathetic).
So, what I'm getting at is this: is there anyone out there with PowerTracks
software that might be willing to add some guitar tracks to my parts? I
could email the unmixed tracks and what not. Just a thought....
Maybe record surf tracks as a studio (as opposed to a live) project, a la
Steely Dan? (No--not in Steely Dan's style...I just meant that they have
been traditionally a studio project only.)
Vincent (p.s., As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I live in central Pennsylvania,
and am not keen on traveling...I'm going to Pittsburgh on Friday to see
Iron Maiden and Dio, and that's probably the furthest I've ventured from
my home in several years.)
