Re: [SurfGuitar101] Digest Number 84

****2. Don't post a rough draft. It's much better to

Jesus Christ, Marty! Let the guy post his fucking
song without YOUR words of wisdom on what he should or
shouldn't do. Maybe he is just starting to get into
Surf guitar, and wanted to see if we think he's on the
right path. Besides, if you only like polished
finished versions of songs, no one put a fucking gun
to your head and made you download the thing.

Geeez BC,
You sound like you just got off the AC/DC discussion list. Never-the-less, you
are right. If this guy is just learning, my advise was overkill.

Settle down BC.
First of all if you visit the guys site you are treated to a flash
intro of hair metal big rawk guitar.
If you check his profile he says he is recording a debut CD with
Steve Vai. So I don't think he is a beginner.
I don't think Mr. Lonero is the least bit interested in surf guitar.
I think he is just trying to promote himself by subscribing to and
posting to as many guitar related lists he can.
Granted, I haven't listened to his song so it could be the next surf
masterpiece....but this is just the impression I got from his site.

I've only been on this group a bit, but anyone who
likes, plays with, wants to be, Steve Vai, has no
business posting songs here. If this makes me a surf
guitar snob or an ego-maniac or whatever, then so be
it.
Good response Marty. Let those wankers post their
crap somewhere else. Keep surf music beautiful!!! As
surf guitarist we represent a culture. A layed back
culture. A soulful culture.

I'm thinking that the person in question should have read the rules
of the forum before posting. As we all know know, this is a forum
devoted to the discussion of (most particularily) surf music and to a
lesser extent certain types of instrumental music. I agree with
Damon, let's keep surf music beautiful and free from masturbatory
guitar wankings. I'm a trad guy so the wanker style has absolutely no
appeal to me. I qoute Dave Wronksi from Slacktone, "Surf music is
meant to be simple and to the point."
Chad Cote
6 string surfer.

I also agree with the "simple and to the point" description of what surf music
should be. It's amazing how Dave Wronski's music can sound so simple and yet has
so much more going on in terms of harmony and physical technique. I love those
harmonics he gets in that "Bells of St. Kahuna". I'm sure he got the idear from
Chet Atkins equally impressive harmonics in "The Bells of St. Mary's". It's
funny that at the big surf revivals, it is the first wave surf bands who partake
in the most "guitar wanking". As much as I don't care for it, they do get great
applause for it.
