New member. Yay.

Hey kids!
I'm new to this list. A little bit about me:
I grew up listening to 50s rock and roll, as that's
what my parents listened to as teens. Hence, I listened
to Elvis (of course), Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Little
Richards, et al. But the one that I could never get out
of my head was Duane Eddy.
Anyhoo, to make a long story short, this led to my
fascination with rock instrumentals, and this in turn
led to my interest in surf music in particular.
Although I'm sure I'm not nearly as well-versed in surf
as many of you on this list are, I'd like to give a nod
to the bands in the surf/rockabilly genre that I've been
listening to as of late:
-Dick Dale
-The Bomboras
-The Reverend Horton Heat
-The Fathoms (holy shit! FATHOMIZED is ****ing incredible!)
-The Aquavelvets
-The Cramps
-Southern Culture on the Skids
-The Ventures
I myself compose music. Although I grew up listening to
50s rock 'n' roll, I also have a passion for electronic music
(yeah--synthesizer music to all you "wire choir" afficianados).
So, I've attempted to combine the two: surf/rockabilly with
electronic/gothic/industrial. I call it "Gothabilly." A
local dj described it as "Duane Eddy meets Gary Numan in a
dark alley."
My problem is this: I can't play guitar to save myself.
Any surf/rockabilly guitarists from central Pennsylvania
(i.e., Altoona/Johnstown/State College area) willing to
record some studio tracks?
Later!
Vincent Pall

Well Vince, you are definitely among some like-minded
individuals here. Welcome.
Isn't Southern Culture... great? I just bought
Plastic Seat Sweat last week. You'll come across a
whole lot more great bands on this list, many of the
members of which are members of this list.

Vincent!
There is one guitarist who experimented a lot with
electronics in the sixties, his name is Vincent Bell.
He designed guitars for Coral/Danelectro and had a
drippy reverb trademark sound that is not surf, but
reasonably close at times.
He was a studio player in New York along with Tony
Mottola and Al Caiola, who played more jazzy and
traditional.
Vinnie Bell was recomended to me by Rick of S:C:O:T:S,
look for his early stuff like 16 Big Guitar Favourites
and Whistle Stop.
I used to to live in Altona, but Altona Hamburg,
Germany! We had a band there called The Looney Tunes.

Vinnie Bell’s surfiest effort I came across was his
playing on The Vampires at The Monsters Ball.
The most electronic sounding record I heard that Bell
has contributed to is Moongas by Dick Hyman, 1963.
Here’a a discography:
