Does anyone out there have the tabs for "The Wedge" ?
Any tips on approaching this high-energy masterpiece?
Should I break out the forearm steroids and the tiger balm for my
pickin' arm?
Should I get some in-de-struct-o nylon picks?
thanks,
Dave P
dang...that sounds like a lot of work...
i was kinda hoping for a shortcut...
i guess I'll have to dig up the slacktone cd.

on guitar or trumpet?? If you play the trumpet, you'll need some buxom
underage nymph to hold the music for you. Aside from that, start off with Mr
Peppermint Man, work your way through Jessie Pearl then Lets Go Trippin, Surf
Beat, Shake & Stomp, Miserlou, and then do the Wedge. After all the aliens that
built the pyramids didn't start from the top....or did they?
If all else fails, just listen to Wronski play it on Slacktone's "Live in
Prague" CD

Jim,
that's too funny about the music holding nymph.
My sister did that once. I shook my head in disbelief.
knowing how most of them get there.

Hi DP,
we play the slacktone version (well sort off anyway), it's got less
doublepicking then the dick dale version (those are the only two I have,
sorry). Also I think slacktone uses Am sometimes where Dick Dale uses F
chord.
If you can get 'live in Prague' (you should get it anyway, imho) I can send
you a quick tab of what's approximatly that version. handwritten and scanned
though, I'm an ass with computers so I can't give you tab-format sort of
thing. Therefor also can't post it in the group. I never bothered to figure
out what DD is doin', sorry.
DISCLAIMER: BY NO MEANS IS MY PLAYING ANYTHING LIKE DAVE WRONSKI'S, AND I
DON'T MEAN ANY DISRESPECT OR BRAGGING. DW IS A GUITAR-GOD, I'M JUST THE SO
MANIEST LOSER WITH A GUITAR. I KNOW THE NOTES AND CAN PLAY THEM FAST - IT'S
NOT THAT DIFFICULT - BUT IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE SLACKTONE. I WISH IT DID BUT
IT DOESN'T.
Having said that.... drop me a mail if you want it.
btw, there are programs on the net that slow down music for you while
keeping key, handy when figuring out songs. ;-) .... I also did tiki bar
crawl, but even in 1/2 tempo i can't seem to get the solo right....

Dave,
There's a guitar tab for the Bambi Molesters' version at
www.mxtabs.net. For some reason, it's under 'T,' for 'THE Bambi
Molesters.' Oh well. It looks pretty good.
Hope it helps.

There are some licks from The Wedge in the Guitar Player surf
primer. Go to the links section of this group and search for "Hodad
No More". You'll have to look for The Wedge bits yourself in the
online lesson, as they apparently didn't secure copyrights or
whatever is required to post the actual names of the songs they
lifted the licks out of. They are just numbered.

Teisco del Ray has a cool version on his "Many Moods" CD. We come
out of "The Wedge" into "Seville" when we play it live. It's our
Teisco tribute (Seville is on his 2nd CD).
Mike
Jacob, I agree that DDs versions are the best but have you heard Johnny
Barakat & The Vestells great version? If not, check it out right here:

Very nice. He is a pretty good player. Sounded very comfortable
playing that.

Great guitar and drums on that one Klas. What's the skinny on that band? Never
heard of
them.

I'll have to look it up because I can't recall his bio, but Barakat
was paralyzed in an accident before he started playing guitar. His
band opened for DD so they decided to show him up by ripping on his
own tune.

Life is short. Play for the music. Wear your heart on your sleeve.
So I wouldn't get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to
keep me in constant touch with my limitations

Okay. Thanks, so that track is from Rare Surf Vol 3. Wish I had it. From
Reverb Central...
"Johnny Barakat is a study in survival and triumph. Just after graduating from
high school,
Johnny was shot during a robbery at his father's grocery store, leaving him
paralyzed from
the waist down. His mother gave him a guitar to fill the time and distract him
from the
justifiable depression of his loss. This was 1961. During this period, he
gradually regained
the use on one leg, and partial use of the other. Johnny started an R&B band
called the
Mystics. With them, he wrote a tune called "Mystic Stomp", which he played once
for Gene
Hofford aka Gene Gray & his Stingrays, who renamed it "Surf Bunny." In '63,
Johnny formed
a new band he called the Vestells, and began recording. They recorded with Paul
Buff at
Pal studios. They issued just one single, but some other tracks survived. The
quality of the
recordings are age-compromised, but still vibrant vital listening. The Vestells
had a
marvelously raw intense sound, full of damped reverb. The Vestells were Dave
Tunno
(drums), Dan Bilbery (bass), Danny Poor (Sax), Mark Piscatelli (rhythm guitar),
and Terry
Gibson (rhythm guitar)."

BTW, you can hear "Surf Bunny" on that "Get a Board" comp on Satan
Records.
Interesting, I did not know that connection.
Thanks,
BN
Or "Surf Bunny" appears from the original masters on the East Side
Sound CD with much better sound than on that bootleg LP.

The Wedge, I really like Teisco Del Reys version, too.
Exactly two minutes...
Yeah, the furious drumming is totally great!
It shouldn't be too hard to find a copy of "Rare Surf Vol. 3". I've
seen it on eBay several times recently.
