compelling question

Bill Bergstrom (surfbandbill) - 05 Jul 2003 05:34:11

Okay,
Maybe it's the fact that it's 3:30 in the morning, but I am having an
internal debate here. So I'll just pose the question to the group:
Do you think that this group would be appropriate to send out
messages promoting shows on?
I used to post notices on this list for almost every show, but I
really really appreciate the fact that in general, we keep the
discussion very music and gear oriented. So, I was just wondering
what the overall opinion or consensus was with regards to the whole
issue.
Headed to bed SOON,
~Bill~

I for one think that it's totally cool, but it's not
my list and that's just my opinion. None of the shows
being announced are ever within 500 miles of me, but
it's kinda cool to here what's goin down all the same.
Besides, no better place to post a notice for a surf
show than on a mailing list devoted to surf guitar.
It would seem silly not to.

Hi,
I agree with Richard. It's nice to see promotion for surf shows, even if
the aren't in my range...(there is a BIG ocean between us ;-)
The same with gig reports. I like to read them, and we always end up
talking about gear anyway, so why not.
I'm pretty sure Brian likes the show anounces and show reports as well.
And due to the recent anouncements, I now know Slactone is comming to
Belgium in a few weeks...If I hadn't read it here I would'nt now of it.
It will nice to see Dave playing that asome white Jag again....And
seeing Dusty play the drums....ah...pure Surf heaven.
And indeed a show within my range!
I would say, keep 'm coming boys and gals'
Jerry S. from Belgium
Off, to see the Lunar Tiki's play tonight. (Roland Bettenville's band)

Sure. Especially for bands that list members are in. Those should
_definitely_ be announced here. Other relevant band announcements are fine
too. I'm also a long way away from most of them but hey if it works for
Jerry, it works for me too. ;)

I don't see a problem with this...I like knowing when and where everyone
is playing. This is my first source for this info. Just my 2 cents

Heck yeah. I want to learn how to play guitar better, and one of the ways to
do that is to watch people right in front of you doing it. So have at it. I
love show reports too since I can't see 99% of the shows people talk about
on the other lists. And show photos...Charlie Kinyon should win some kind of
award.
So here's one right now. One week from today is The Troubadours,
Destination: Earth!, & The Nebulas show in Indianapolis.
BN
PS Sorry we won't see you this year Tom! But it sounds like you have an
equally cool show to see.
PPS Here is a tip boys and girls: don't get vertigo. Mine hasn't totally
cleared up yet. It had better in a week though damnit!!!

Jim Nichols (toofastjim) - 05 Jul 2003 21:39:51

I hope its okay, since someone just promoted one of our upcoming shows.
Seriously, I think its a good thing, since you're discussing surf music, and
surf guitar and equipment related to surf music and surf guitar, I think live
shows are the culmination of all the basement tweaking and cap-modding everyone
always talks about. Show reviews & pictures are good & what better way to find
out about live surf music shows than to read a post in advance. I would hate to
find out about a show by reading someone's review of it after I missed it
(assuming I could have gone). I've flown around the eastern half of the country
to see bands like The Space Cossacks, The Penetrators & The Troubadors & The
Volcanos - most of which because I found out about the gigs on this list.
Plus as someone else mentioned, even if you can't attend the show 500 miles
away, its nice to see who's out there playing.
It would seem silly not to promote surf shows, since many of the surf bands
would be using the equipment everyone seems to drool over (or on).
If you see _____ is playing at the ____ with ______ and you're not a big fan
of ______ or ______ is too far away - then delete the message if you're not
interested.
for a complete listing of upcoming The Nebulas shows, including next week's
3-day tour of the hinterland check out
