Does anyone out there have a Fender solid state Reverb? How does it
compare to the tube models? Thanks !
Hi,
I have a farfisa solid state reverb, also an outboard example and I have
compared it to the Fender 63 RI unit.
These are my conclusions.
The Fender 63 RI sounds warmer and deeper, a more rich reverb, even
tough it has a harsh high end.
The reverb is also much more wet, someone mentioned "Icepick" mode. And
the reverb is more handable qua sound diversity.
The solid state sounds nice as wel (in this case the Farfisa, which was
disigned for the Farfisa portable organ)
Roland B. did a cap mode on it and it has now a more controlable reverb
as well. The reverb sound is less rich, less warm and a bit treblier
then the tube unit. In all a nice sound, although it did take some time
to get used to it.
I prefer it over the Tube unit on my 4x12" Marshall cab, but I do prefer
the tube unit when a JBL/Fender/Jensen 2x12" cab is used.
I don't have a JBL/Fender/Jensen cab, so...
I believe Victor from "the Coffin Daggers" uses a solid state Fender
reverb unit. It sounds nice on their album.
Well the SS is the poor man's reverb....my 60ties Farfisa unit costed
140Euro, the cheapest working Fender tube reverb I found so far, 450
Euro....2nd hand.
In all a SS tube reverb does have better sound then the reverb pedals
(IMHO) since they have the same reverb pan design as the Fender unit. So
when you kick them, you get the splash as well, you can kick the
Danelectro reverb unit, bit it doesn't sound the same at all.

I think Fender also made one of those "oil can" reverb units for a while
too, didn't they? Nutty!
