Bored, I Wrote A History of Premier Amps & Link Wray's "Rumble"

Gavin Ehringer (windanseabeachboy) - 20 Jun 2003 01:10:53

My recently-acquired 1960 Premier Twin amp is in the shop awaiting
tech inspection and a 3-prong safety cord, so I did some research on
these amps. You may be familiar with the Premier Model 90 Reverb unit,
but they also made amps similar in circuit design from about 1946 to
about 1970. These amps appear occassionally in music shops and eBay
and are cheap compared to vintage Fenders, which use almost identical
circuit designs. I bought mine twin 12 for $275, compared to $800 or
more for a comparable Deluxe Reverb - and mine has two 12" speakers!
Anyway, those interested might want to read my article on the
Premiers. And, if anyone can find out more, please let me know. I am
on the lookout for a Premier Model 71 from the mid-1950s, so if you
see one, write me IMMEDIATELY!!
Gavin
