I went out of town and away from my email for a while
and I've missed out on a lot of the discussion here,
having stupidly deleted lots of things I'd meant to
keep for future reference, especially in regards to
bands that I've heard so much about. I've heard a lot
about The Red Elvis', The Space Cossacks and The
Mermen. I'm about to go on a surf spending spree with
my next check (I've been sinning and buying a lot of
those "other" rock albums, ;)...so everybody drop some
must have names real quick that aren't as regularly
discussed here. I already have most of the staples
and most everything by the guys on this list. Fire
away...help me blow my college textbook money.

For a good intro to the Mermen, I suggest their live CD "Live at the Haunted
House".
What, you don't own any Space Cossacks? Oh man...get 'Tsar Wars' and
'Interstellar Stomp'
Other groups not mentioned a lot here...hmmm...
The Woodies, The Volcanos, The Ghastly Ones, The Bomboras, The
Treblemakers....help me out people!!!
For a while it was thought The Ghastly Ones had broken up. But then they
emerged again with this website with mp3's titled "new-song-demo1.mp3", etc.
so maybe there is hope they are active again....!
Personally I have not heard anything by The Red Elvises and would also like
opinions on them.
Thanks,
BN

Let's see, other groups not frequently mentioned here . . . how about
The Eliminators
The Torquays
Dragstrip
The Finks
The Sir Finks
The Vara-Tones (although Dana appears here from time to time)
The Dynotones
The Krontjong Devils
The Boss Martians
The Huntington Cads
(hey all but one of these groups begins with "the" . . . I'm tired !)
. . . and many others. I think that the other week TFJ mentioned the merits
of the entire MuSick catalogue - that's a good place to start. Check out
the releases on places like Zptduda Music, POP Records Mart, and Double
Crown. Lots o' good stuff there. Hope that helps!

Thanks Jim, Dick, and the others for helping me with this. How could
I forget these groups?
BTW, Dana Vincent is in Splashback with Bill Epps, who is the head
Vara-Tone. I haven't seen Dana post on the lists in a while...hope
he's doing alright.

Wow.... already so many great bands mentioned thus far. I'll just
toss in my .02 worth of bands whose names I haven't seen just yet.
Gein and the Graverobbers
The Nebulas (how could people NOT say them!?!?!)
CHUM
Man or AstroMan
The Balboas
Pollo Del Mar
The Mach IV
The Pyronauts
The Infrareds (the CD isn't out just yet, but I just know it will
kick ass)
The Fabulous Plank-tones
Fifty Foot Combo (Did someone mention them?)
Jackie and the Cedrics
Surf Report
I'll also shamelessly plug my band The Lava Rats -- we start
recording for the new CD in 2 weeks, and we have an EP "Rats Live On
No Evil Star" available from our website.
~Bill~
While being appreciative (and owning) music by most of the bands
mentioned, I consider albums by the following bands to be gems in my
collection:
Slacktone
The Insect Surfers
The Eliminators
The Torquays
The Bambi Molestors
The Penetrators
Surfcoasters
I'd also recommend:
The Reventlos
Enjoy!
