Having only recently heard the first Agent Orange record, I am wondering
what other instro/surf groups have a similar punk rock /distorted/fuzzed
guitar sound ?
Do the Ramonestures do surf?
Are there any surf versions of Davie Allan and the Arrows for example?
Any suggestions would be welcome
Suggestions received : Chum,Surfumental ,already have both but not as
dirty or as surfy as I am after.

Huevos Rancheros get pretty punk-like! Not strictly surf, but close enough,
I'd say.

I think The Mermen take surf pretty far from it's origins...not so
much on the punk tip as metal-influenced experimental sounds. They are
a revelation!

Check out JFA.... they have some cool instrumentals on some of their
records... They are also one of the early 80's skate rock/hardcore bands,
like Agent Orange. Completely awsome.
The Dead Kennedy's have a guitar player that plays with some surf
influences, check out some of their records too.

I think Jim just bought a guitar from a guy I know here in Nova
Scotia on e bay.

The Ramonetures album is great, provided you love The Ramones.
There's a couple of Mudhoney surf-type tunes with some pretty scuzzy
guitar -- "Fuzzgun '91" and "Fuzzbuster."
JFA's a good bet, and there's a handful of Surf Coasters songs in the
punk vein (easy on the reverb, heavy on the distortion) --
especially "Up & Down" from the Super Runabout soundtrack.
Oh, and don't forget Johnny Thunders' rendition of "Pipeline."
