My Hot Rod DeVille has a bad case of power tube rattle (well one of
them rattles anyway at moderate volumes). So I was thinking about
buying some more JJ tubes and getting it rebiased. But then I decided
to take another look at that unofficial HRDx web page and see how
hard it would be to do myself. I took the back off the amp and
checked the bias...it was running too hot. So I tweaked it back down
to what Fender recommends and 90% of the tube rattle is now gone! It
was incredibly easy to do since everything is accessible from the
back, and Fender clearly labels the bias test point and makes the
bias pot obvious.
