I'm sure everybody in Colorado knows this already, but DD will be in
Ft Collins Friday, Denver Saturday and Colorado Springs on Sunday.
my band, The Beloved Invaders, will be opening for Dick at the Denver
show. the photos on the web site are from last year's DD show.

Hi Bob,
Good luck at the gig! Give us a review afterwards. I understand Sam & Dusty
from Slacktone are backing DD up on this tour. I'm going to see him a week
from tonight.
Thanks,
BN

I suppose one could look at it as seeing 66.6666666% of Slacktone in many places
that will never have the pleasure of seeing the full 100% (nothin' beats a band
that doesn't sing and can play 10 more songs instead of rambling aimlessly to
the audience about his/their accomplishments). Even though I'd rather hear
Wronksi's version of Misirlou, I guess Dick can pull it off pretty good, too
(sh*t deflector shields are now raised- fire away).

Bob,
Dick Dale is playing downtown Colorado Springs (as you noted), so I'm
staying in town rather than going on up to Denver. Best wishes on your
gig - really hope to catch your band very soon. If only I had a truly
reliable car instead of a really cool, vintage '73 Triumph!
Gavin
P.S. Brian, Thanks for noting that 2/3 of Slacktone are playing...I
hope to talk to Dusty and Sam a bit during my visit. Perhaps I will do
a review of Dick Dale's show too!

Wouldn't it be cool if Dave Wronski could back DD up too?

That would rock! Maybe Ivan the ex-Cossacks can join him
too!
(by the way, Old Capt. Ron was bassplayer for the
Astronatus, not really a Slacktone dude)

I don't think Ron Eglit was an Astronaut.
But I never said he was a Slacktone dude. Dusty & Sam from Slacktone
are backing up DD on this tour because Ron can't make it. Hence the
66.666% Slacktone reference.

Actually, Ron Eglit was a guitar player (I forget rhythm or lead, I
think rhythm) in an obscure band called Adrian & the Sunsets (gosh,
I'm not even sure of that now - I think that's right). Their two
claims to fame, really, are 1) Adrian the drummer was in the Rumblers
when they released "Boss", a big regional hit, and an influential
tune; 2) their lone album was reissued on the Surf label in the
nineties as a 2-fer with the MUCH better Jim Messina & the Jesters
album, which is probably the only reason why anybody knows of them.
Ron was only 15 or 16 when the album came out.

Oh...I get it...I thought old Ron was touring this time...I
think old Ron was in the Astronauts...but, I could be
wrong...I guess I should check my surf Bible (Bob Dalley's
book)...

Ron was in the 60s band, The Sunsets (as in "Adrian and the...") which put out
an ablum called "Breakthough" in 1963. An Astronaut he was not.

After the Sunsets broke up, Ron also played in the Knights of Day, which was
managed by Casey Kasem & featured Jim Messina on many of the recordings.
