Surf's Up on the Big Screen
Saturday, May 3 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Explore the real and mythic world of beach culture with a screening of
two classic beach films, the 2002 skate and surf documentary Dog Town &
Z-Boys and the 1965 Beach Blanket Bingo. Special guest, Stacy Peralta
(schedule permitting) will discuss directing Dog Town & Z-Boys and
examine the portrayal of beach life in movies. Aaron Kinkaid, who was
scene in a variety of beach films including: The Girls on the Beach,
Beach Ball, The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini and Susan Hart, who
appeared in Ride the Wild Surf, Dr. Goldenfoot and the Bikini Machine,
Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, and who's husband was Jim Nicholson, a
producer of most of the beach films ever made, will introduce the 1965
film Beach Blanket Bingo and talk about their experiences with surf
films that include the legendary Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Bikini
Beach, and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini. Susan will also talk about her
husbands work on the beach pictures. Admission for this program is free
for museum members; nonmembers are $7 per film or $10 for both. To make
