Re: [SurfGuitar101] is a 64 fender showman piggy back and reverb unit ideal for

-=Dan Ware=- - 29 Apr 2003 20:12:25

If you find a '64 Showman head that operates at 100 watts, send it DIRECTLY
to:
Dan Ware
153 Lowell St.
Somerville, MA 02143
DO NOT DELAY. Drop it in the mail immediately.
On a serious note, the '64 Showman head was rated at 85 watts, so if
someone is trying to tell you it's 100 watts, you might want to second-check
the serial numbers to make sure its really a '64...

What kind of Showman is it? Black Face? Blonde? Silver Face? Dual, or
Single?
The original Blonde ones were 100 Watts I believe. But didn't they stop
making them in 1963? Maybe you have a transition one. The black faces were
85. The silver face Dual Showman Reverb went back to 100 Watts, but they
started in 1968. The late 70's Dual Showman Reverb's were 135 Watts.
Curious,

I'm also curious about this voltage knob you speak of. That is certainly NOT
stock hardware.

Yeah, it's stock. It was made for the european/export market.
Take a look (scroll down a bit):
Fender just used the standard chassis and added a voltage selector.
Cheap and easy, Just like Fender in the day...

Here's another link (although it's an export Vibroverb) of the
voltage selector switch:
BTW - Phil, there are a few shots of an AB763 board on the main page,
if you are still looking for them. They're at:

Indeed, it is. It was made for the European Export Market.
It has 110V-120V-220V-230V and 240V. In the link the red buttom of the
switch is missing.
My SFBMR has this switch as well.
It probably also has the three way ground switch as well.
However, this switch has nothing to do with the apms overall wattage.
In all it seams to be pretty verstaile since it works without any
problems even after thirthy years.

Probably a bit rare in the us. (with the Voltage switch)
Although Blackface Showmans are hard to find here in Europe and VERY
expensive....
Anyway, it's a very good amp, if you like it, keep it.
In all it's not very different from a 64 Showman made for the U.S.
market.
I would love to have an amp like that, accompanied by a JBL
cabinet...(hey a guy can dream...)
If you want to make money out of it, I'm sure it can be done.
Happy Surfing,
Jerry

Is there a circuit code stamped on or near the tube chart? Perhaps
its one of the blonde showmans leftover with a black face faceplate?
The circuit code would be 6G14 for the blonde (100 Watts) and most
likely a AB763 (85 Watts) for a black face.
