I got this link from the Los Strait's list. Since Ivan recently
mentioned Deke I thought I'd post. There a couple of small pics of
Eddie and Deke playing at an Australian Rockabilly Festival. One has
both guys playing Deke's trademark doubleneck at the same time:
I don't know a lot about Deke other than hearing him on The Untamed
Youth stuff. Is he a full time "rockabilly" guy now? The Untamed
Youth stuff I've heard is very surfy and very cool.

Deke is an awesome guitar player and worth checking out. I think putting him in
the rockabilly
category is an injustice to his versatility. He also has a great sense of humor
that comes through
in his playing. He also tours constantly, so go see him.

Ferenc is absolutely right, especially about his versatility.
However, I would like to add that he is really awe-inspiring when
playing rockabilly. I've never been terribly impressed with his surf
playing, though it's solid - just not exceptional. Another thing
that he does that I really dig is Les-Paul-overdubbing kind of stuff,
with some tracks sped up, some slowed down. It's incredible, and I
don't know of anybody else that even dabbles in those sounds
anymore. But every time I went to see him play rockabilly live, I
spent the entire night with my jaw mopping up the floor with my own
saliva. He's really THAT good.

There was a good article on Deke in the April issue of Guitar Player magazine
(the one
with Lindsay Buckingham on the cover.
BTW, seeing him playing with Los Straits last year was one of the best gigs I've
ever
seen.

Deke is on the cover of the new issue of "Blue Suede News". It's a
much more in depth article than the one in Guitar Player. I too have
to get off my butt and get some of the Deke solo albums. I've got
some Untamed Youth, and some of his Eccophonic 45s. The last bunch
of releases (Hightone & 3-D) are hard to come by on the East Coast of
Canada.
Speaking of Eddie, I just got the Planet Rockers "Hillbilly Beat"
from the man himself. There's a whole lotta great playing/singing on
that one!!! Plus Mr Pan (Panasonics & the Neatbeats), plus the
Guitar Party rhythm section are on it, and it was recorded at Toe Rag
(one of my fave studios...based on recordings I have from there).
