Heya folks - any leads on which pedals I should be looking at to get a
60s-ish Davie Allan "Blues Theme" kinda fuzz? The Guyatone TZ-2 I have is a
little too trebly, the Little Big Muff is too insane, and the POD's "Fuzz
Box" (Fuzz Face) is pretty close. Should I be looking at a Fuzz Face?
Also, budget is probably like $50 used, so no boutique stuff for me.
Thanks!

Have you tried the DanElectro "Grilled Cheese" pedal? That's what I use
for fuzz.. It's only $30-$40 new..
Hit your local guitar shop and see if they'll let you take one for a
test drive before you buy.

maybe a fuzzrite by mosrite? probably costs a very pretty
penny.

I'd be interested in anyone who has some advice on a fuzz pedal that will
get that real fuzzy "spirit in the sky" torn speaker effect
that is also not noisey, true bypass even....
thanks

you should try out a dallas arbiter fuzz-face...I had one
for a while...it was real nice.
I had the one of old time electro-harmonix Big Muff...but
again thoose are way old time stuff.
Someone on the list reccomended a Danelectro fuzz.
sounds like you need a trip down to the music store to try
out some things.

the dano fuzz isn't bad - adds a lot of noise those (at least for me)
I kind of like the voodoo lab superfuzz - seems real musical and buzzsawey
also the zvex fuzz factory is kind of insane - although pricey
thanks for the dallas tip I'll check it out

When I use the italian JEN (same as Vox) fuzz, and the
Mosrite it sounds very much like Davie Allan on the
Psychedelic Sounds era recordings. The lows get really
cut off.

Jamie,
Check out www.verbatone.com for fuzz pedals. Rory Fortune from The
Infrareds is basically hand making these KICK-ASS fuzz pedals. I have one
and it sounds GREAT. (Although we're still having a VERY difficult time The
Nebulas-izing it.)

You might ask Davie Allan himself. He's pretty active on the forums at his
website:
He also has a Yahoo group too:
