Apologies if this has already been suggested but, personally, I really dig
the squeaks!
:)

Here's a Ronnie Hawkins story:
There was a Canadian guitar player (Robbie Robertson?) who was
recording with RH, and kept squeaking on the strings. RH told him
to stop, and the guy said even Segovia squeaks when he plays. RH
replied "That's why he ain't on the session!"

If your a heavy handed player like myself bring your 'TONE' finger ease product
to the studio and spray a little bit on the strings before you start to record.
It might help. On my album 'Warning, Heavy Surf Advisory', I dad some numerous
string squeaks but left them in the mix. To us they added to the intensity and
passion of the song being played and thus sounded good. However, that may not
always work. Also, to clean and polish my guitars I use a over the counter
guitar cleaner with lemon oil and old white socks turned inside out to apply and
wipe down. There soft, absorbent, and you just slide them on your hand like a
glove. Works great for me. See Ya---------dogfish
