Someone should write Dick Dale () and invite him to
the big-surf shindig once it gets organized. I'd bet he'd show. And
Slacktone. And Agent Orange. And the Tornadoes. And the Chantays. And
don't forget the Phantom Surfers...they'd show if they are still
alive.
My suggestion would be San Diego CA on Fourth of July weekend. Some
other good sites would be Oceanside CA, San Bernardino CA, Ventura CA
or maybe even Las Vegas Nevada...but the 4th seems like a great
date. Maybe once we figure out the place we should figure out a date
by poll. Definately a long weekend...
We should probably also invite Dick Dale to join this discussion
group...

I like your suggestion, but the impression I get is that DD doesn't think of
himself as a "surf guitarist" any more and takes offense to the label. He's
definitely an interesting character. I love most of his 60's stuff. The
newer stuff is a mixed lot. I'd love to hear him play with a rhythm guitar
player again and actually have a fixed set of songs. I hear that he just
mostly jams and does these medleys....of course what do I know, I've never
seen him live.
But yeah, that would be something if he was on here!

Brian:
DD is one ass-kickin' mofo!!!
And... he still plays "King of the Surf Guitar" (which he
is, by the way.) It doesn't matter if he doesn't want to
acknowledge the title,(or rather live a cliche)
...he simply is the root of all things surf. The spirit.
Dude, you should definately make a point to see him next
time he is in your part of the world. Pure inspiration.
Pure energy. Pure bliss.
surf's up,
