Hi there,
I seem to have smashed the hell out of the top switch on my Jag which
seems to break the circuit of the pickups and now I get no sound
through an amp.
Can a replacement be found at my local Radio shack or are these
specific Fender parts that have to be bought specifically from a guitar
place?
Or, is it possible to by-pass the whole thing? If so, does anybody know
which color wires to fuse together? I never use that switch anyway.
It's kind of important I can use my Jag this weekend so any quick fixes
are appreciated.
Thanks,
Spanky
Spanky,
First, you can use other switches for replacement, there's
nothing sacred or holy about what Fender put in there.
Just be sure to check the overall size, and don't forget
to get screws that match. Some newer switches claim to
fit, and they do, but they were made for modern applications,
and have different threads. Just a note to the cautious.
Next, you implied that you have some basic soldering skills,
since you wanted to know what color wires to tie together.
This is a list of instructions for doing just that, bypassing
the switch entirely. You could also print out the diagram
found at this site:
<>
(On my screen it's kinda fuzzy, but the printout was OK.)
1) Lift out the upper control plate;
2) Remove the yellow and green wires from one side of
-- the switch and solder them together.
3) Remove the orange and white wires from the other side
-- of the switch and solder them together.
4) Tape off the exposed ends so that they can't
... short out to anything, and button her up.
No need to worry about the remaining wires on the switch,
they're now out of the loop, so to speak.
For good measure, after you've gotten your Jag back together,
visit the home page of the site above, there's a lot of good
info for Jag lovers.

Thanks for the help. I by-passed the whole circuit and she sounds
better than ever.
