Surf Music cracking top 10?

Dick Stewart (rvstewartproductions) - 14 Mar 2006 11:10:14

Always keep in mind that the charts are dependent on
the impulses of the mainstream teens. If the music
relates to where his or her head is at, then there's a
chance (given, of course, other factors also coming
into play).
The early '60s was a boom for early '60s rock and roll
instrumentals (now referred to as surf), and the
California surfing scene was definately an "in thing"
with the teens. But even then, instrumentals struggled
in their competition with vocals; and when the Beatles
arrived in the U.S. in Feb. 1964, the instro craze
suddenly wasn't mainstream any longer.
Nope, surf-instrumental music right now doesn't have
much of a chance of moving into the mainstream circle.
Teens would have to undergo some extreme changes in
order to accept it as their thing, and I don't really
see that happening right now. But then, that's not
ever going to stop me from performing it!
