couple of posts about Mid West bands people may not know about

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 13 Mar 2006 13:30:29

Also, to add a few more local and regional bands the list, there is
the Hoot Owls from Duluth (like the Titans were), Cockfight, Crooked
eye, and Baron Von Otto Matic (Ok they are from Iowa but we'll take
them anyway). Not bad for a frozen state!
Again, if there are any regional bands that will be touring soon,
this is an open call to join us for our First Saturday Surf Stomp,
the first of every month at the Hexagon Bar. Send me an email at
kynic@....

Some googling reveals that Baron Von Otto Matic contains members of
the Iowa 90's era surf band The Del Stars and a guy from The Sherman
Hillside Stranglers (a psychobilly/surf band I saw open for Los
Straitjackets a few years ago). Thanks for the tip, I will look out
for them.

There is a psychobilly/surf band out of Davenport called The One Night
Standards. They are a trio, and I saw them open for Dick Dale during
his swing through Iowa last summer. They were very entertaining; they
played some Link, some Spaghetti Westerns, and some surfy stuff.
They have a new CD out too which I may post a review of soon.
