Hello everybody!
I play with a silverface Twin and a Strat loaded with Antiquity S Duncans.. My
Twin stays at 4 or 5 most of the time... I saw a 64'
Princeton amp (black tolex) with a Fender reverb unit of the same year (black
tolex too) on the web... I live in France: these amps
are prettty hard to find.. But I don't know if 13 watts is enough to play with
a group? There is the price too: the seller wants 1525
euros for the two (1 euro = 1 $)... He says the amp cost between 700 to 850
euros and a reissue of that reverb unit costs 640
euros... Is he right about the price? And what about the 13 watts? I play
garage and surf and need a good volume....
Thanks for your answers and greetings from France!

Having never played a Silverface, I can't speak to the rest of your
letter, but 13 watts sounds a bit underpowered for stage use. I use a
Fender 25R - that's 25 watts with internal reverb.
13 sounds like a little practice amp. How big is this thing?

Hi Vincent,
Hmmmm, I think a Silverface twin is more suitable for surf then a
princeton. (my opnion of course)
The price for the "63-64 VINTAGE reverb Fender unit looks O.K. (for
Europe that is, the reissue's here go for 600 to 750 new)
13 watts isn't a lot, 40 would do nice. (100 is to much ;-)
But, then I can't imagine that Fender ever build a 13 Watt amp in the
60-ties? (As far as my little knowledge goes....)
Also 13 watts for a tube amp seams too little, (they didn't build
anything else back then, only tubes)
Try to buy the Fender unit alone or at least test drive the amp at
Higher volumes before purchasing, after all 1525 Euro's isn't little
money....
Hope this helps a bit,
Jerry S. from Belgium

hi vince
(our drummer's called vincent aka vince... good name for a surfer!)
i agree pretty much with what jerry said. however... some points to consider
at high numbers, a dollar is not a euro. the exange rate differs, sometimes
there is about 5% diffrence. thats $75 at those amounts, that's a real nice
dinner with a lady. quite worth it!
a 13 Watt princeton is not for playing in a band. you might get away with it
in a jazz threesome or live with a pa and a good monitor, at rehearsal or
live wirhout pa it's just not enough.
jerry is right, $600 is reasonable for an orginal 60's fender reverb... but
do you really want to pay it? check out the italian cosmoverb at 430 euros,
it's basicall a brand new tube reverb that is exactly like the fender 60's
unit ....ptp and all. (to be sure, this is jerry's tip! i ordered one,
should get it within a week and I'll review it here. thanks jerry!)
anyway, I know better ways to spend 1500 euros on surf gear. check ebay.de
(germany) regurlarly, they have a lot of stuff, it's been around for a long
time. it really is worth the drive to germany, or the extra shipping costs.
for that kind of money, you can get a dual howman reverb and reissue reverb
at ebay.de from what i saw. I know from experience that france is really
expensive when it comes to musical gear.
good luck, whatever you decide.

ps, where in france? I'm in the eighbourhood of Baune/ Dijon regularly
'cause my mom lives there...)
