Early warning for NOKIE EDWARDS of the VENTURES show April 8th in Burbank!

Deke Dickerson (guitargeekfestival) - 05 Mar 2006 18:15:46

Hey there!
Sorry about the spam, but thought you all might appreciate knowing about this
event....
Here's first warning for a very cool show coming up!
APRIL 8th (SATURDAY NIGHT!)
at JOE's AMERICAN BAR & GRILL
4311 W. Magnolia Blvd.
Burbank, CA
NOKIE EDWARDS OF THE VENTURES!
VENTURESMANIA!
DEKE DICKERSON & THE ECCO-FONICS!
Nokie of course is the lead guitarist for the Ventures, the guy you've heard on
such
phenomenal records as "Slaughter on 10th Ave.", "Drivin' Guitars", "Caravan",
"Journey to
the Stars" (and about a million others!) He's in Los Angeles for a few months
as an extra in
the new HBO series "Deadwood" (watch for him) and was also recently nominated
for a
grammy. He's still in killer form and knocked 'em dead at the 2nd Deke's Guitar
Geek
Festival in early 2005.
Venturesmania is a group of local L.A. surf musicians who have played in such
groups as
the Ghastly Ones, the Untamed Youth and the Phantom Surfers, along with many
others.
They got together with a love of the Ventures music and do very rare live
appearances.
They will be performing their own set of Ventures classics AND will also be
backing up
Nokie for his set! Ever wished you could see the Ventures with all original
early 60's
Mosrite guitars and blonde Fender Dual Showman amps? Well now you can, with the
geekiest tribute band in the USA!
Deke Dickerson & the Ecco-Fonics are opening the show, with their brand of
American
music that runs the gamut from rockabilly to vintage country to surf with a
touch of 60's
frat rock & garage. Deke puts together the annual "Deke's Guitar Geek Festival"
which has
been a huge success in the guitar community. In addition he now writes a
bi-monthly
column in Guitar Player magazine called "Deke the Guitar Geek."
BRING YER CASH! Deke's clearing out the rafters of his garage, and bringing a
bunch of
guitars, amps, effects and guitar related JUNK to sell at this show! If you're
a guitar
geek--this is the garage sale you've been waiting for! Also there will be a
full range of
CD's, DVD's, T-shirts and other merchandise for sale.
Buy your advance tickets now at www.dekedickerson.com
$13 advance/$15 day of show THIS SHOW WILL SELL OUT!

Deke! I'm serious about flying out for this. I live
in Norfolk Va. & have seen you here twice. I'm a big
surf nut & would love to catch this show! Can you
give me an idea how far Joe's is from the Burbank
Airport?

Eric,
I don't think Deke is a regular in this yahoo group, and
probably won't answer your question. Burbank is not a huge town.
I would assume that it wouldn't be more than 5 miles from the
airport.

Thanks Jeff! Any info appreciated. I'm an
East Coast resident, but looking into the possibility
of catching this show. That way I'll finally have
bragging rights to "I flew allllll the way accross the
U.S. for a concert!"

The Detonators (overhead_ted) - 09 Mar 2006 09:40:50

Hey Eric,
If you can fly directly into Burbank, you'd be really close. Might be more
expenseive however. LAX is over the hill but only 45 minutes on a weekend
with no trafic (yeah right). Hope you can make it out.
Cheers,
Ted from the Det's

It's very close: From the Burbank Airport, drive south on N.
Hollywood Way. Turn right on Magnolia Blvd. Drive a few blocks and
you'll see the club on your right next door to a Taco Bell.
The closest place to stay is the Travelodge on N. Hollywood Way. You
could walk to the show from there. The hippest place to stay in
Burbank is the Safari Inn on Olive Avenue. It's across the street
from the cool 8-Ball store.
