Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Maple boards The answer is YES!!!!

John McCorvey (eddiekatcher) - 01 Mar 2006 14:11:02

Here in Atlanta, long time Fender Dealer Wallace Reed says yes. Jazzmasters
were available with maple neck/fingerboards. As a matter of fact, Wal had the
Fender factory customize one with his name in the fingerboard.....He also said
that is was so damn confusing he couldn't play it. As he remembers, the year
was 1969. He also recalls seeing numerous Jazzmasters with maple neck/boards
over the years, but never a Jaguar. He ought to know, being involved directly
with Fender since the 60's. Anybody out there got Wal's custom Jazzmaster? He
would love to get it back..........eddie katcher

No, I don't recall ever seeing a JM or Jag with a maple
fingerboard, either a one- or two-piece neck. Doesn't
mean it didn't happen, just that I've never seen one.
I did some googling around on this topic, and found
pretty much nothing that might point to the existance
of any such instruments, either factory-built or customized.
However, my search did turn up this little gem:

Personally, I don't believe it, but then again, I've been
fooled before. <g>
