March issue of Lance Monthly now posted

Dick Stewart (rvstewartproductions) - 28 Feb 2006 11:07:36

Compadres!
The March issue of “The Lance Monthly” has been
posted, and as usual, to read, go to:
IN THIS ISSUE: Up Close with Michael Rincon of The
Blendells (Bassist and leader of an East L.A. Chicano
band that made its mark nationally in the mid – ‘60s
with “La La La La La” – Interviewed by Dick Stewart);
Paterson’s “Jump, Jive, and Harmonize” (reviews of
releases by Roger Bunn, The Electric Prunes, Cats &
Jammer); An Interview with Larry Blanks and Jim Harris
(members of Chattanooga’s early ‘60s standout
rock-and-roll band, The Squires – Interviewed by Mike
Dugo); MuzikMan’s Lance Monthly Album Pick of the
Month (“The Wait of Glory” Proto-Kaw)
[Editor’s Note: What do The Blendells, The Premiers,
and Cannibal & the Headhunters have in common? They’re
all from East L.A. and they had a national hit during
the period of 1964 through 1965.
This month’s featured interview is with bassist and
leader of The Blendells, Mike Rincon. His story is not
unlike the other one-hit-wonder, rock-and-roll bands
during the early to mid – ‘60s in which there was an
extreme dose of passion during the band’s outset, an
immediate stroke of good luck, and an untimely breakup
because some of its members didn’t dig the band’s
monetary progress. Says Rincon: “Eventually some of
the band members became convinced by the influence of
others that we should have been rolling in the $'s.”
Sound familiar?
Read how Michael Rincon dealt with this negativity and
became a better person because of it.]
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: This Saturday, March 4, The
Knights will do a casual instrumental guitar
performance from 1:00 in the afternoon to 5:00 P.M. at
Molly’s in Tijeras Canyon (about 10 miles east of
Albuquerque between the beautiful Manzano and Sandia
Mountains). No drummer this time around—just me on
guitar and son, Richard on bass. So if you’re going
to be in the Albuquerque area during that time, drop
on in and surprise us. There’s no cover.
