Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: the Wet Tones / Vara-Tones

Warren Binder (captainspringfield) - 16 Feb 2006 01:57:03

I actually just picked this one up about two weeks ago myself, and couldn't
agree more. Halfway through "Apache Trail" I was kicking myself for not buying
it sooner. On the first listen the arrangements really stood out. The evolution
of a lot of the songs from start to finish was really interesting, and sometimes
very unexpected. The songwriting's consistently top-notch, too.
And, like Ivan said, my hat is definitely off to anyone who can make "If I Had
a Hammer" even vaguely listenable.
I have to agree with Brian about that Vara-Tones album, though. Some of the
first few songs were great, but there were only two that grabbed my attention on
the last half. I really liked their previous album, so I was pretty let down
when this one went back into the pile after only a couple of listens.

Ah, Shawn, Shawn, Shawn... If you only read my reviews I post on
here and take them to heart, you could have known about this CD a
year and a half ago! ;)
