Reverb preferences, was New Fender Jazzmaster and Surf Gear

Gavin Ehringer (windanseabeachboy) - 10 Feb 2006 11:36:33

I hate to be the buzz-kill here, but I want to speak up for the Electro-Harmonix
Holy Grail
Reverb. I have owned two Fender Reissues Reverb, a couple Premier Reverbs, and
have a
hand-wired reverb from Weber based on the original Fender cicuit.
While the Weber reverb is the shit, and I highly recommend it as well as an
original, hand-
wired Fender reverb, the Holy Grail is a very able substitute. It has great
depth and a mild
amount of "sproing!" when you mute the lower strings.
If you don't have the billies to spend on a real Fender tube reverb, the Holy
Grail is a very
capable unit at about one-fourth the price. IMHO.

I agree Gavin
none of the pedals can match a tube unit, but at living room volume,
the difference just gets a lot smaller. Ive got the digitech reverb,
and I found it good enough to play around with at home. the same will
go for the holy grail and the verbzilla.
btw, nice to know about the weber - i'm waiting on a kit as we speak.

WR,
The Weber Tube Reverb G15 is really quite good...it definitely works for someone
like me
who wanted a hand-wired Fender reverb but didn't want the vintage price. Mine
even has
the lacquered tweed finish and cream chicken head knobs, which really make it
look sharp.
Honestly, I had a lot of problems with my two reissues '62 Fender reverbs - both
had
serious radio interference problems. The Weber doesn't have such issues.
Good luck, I hope you will review the Weber kit for the group once you get it
built (or, if it
was built for you).
Best!
