"Road Runnah" (was: CD review: Wild Sammy & the Royaltones - Speed Crazy)

fiberglassrocket - 08 Feb 2006 11:33:44

The Road Runners (a studio group) recorded "Road Runnah" first (on the
Felsted label -- late 1963). The same track was used on the Pyramids' LP
several months later, so that particular track is NOT the Pyramids. Also
of interest is that the version of "Out of Limits" on the Pyramids' LP is
also NOT the Pyramids, but an alternate take of the Marketts' hit.
Thankfully, all the other tracks on that LP ARE by the Pyramids.

Yes to both The Roadrunners and The Pyramids as they both did it.
Don't know who was first though. Both these versions are called "Road
Runnah" but it's the same song as covered by Wild Sammy under the
name "Road Runner".

Yes, I was replying to his post which also included your original
post.

That explains why I thought both groups versions sounded very similar
when I gave them a quick spin earlier today! :-D

I asked this a while ago, but this was before we had Mr. Blair and Mr.
Dirt on the list... :-)
What is known about the Road Runners (besides the above)? Did they
release anything else?
And John, is another edition of your book(s) in the works?
Thanks,
BN

The flip side was Quasimoto, a faster and more "Pipeline" like instro.
Both sides are very cool! The Road Runners happen to be the currect
openening theme on Reverb Central. For those who have not discovered
it yet, the theme changes every few days...
